Does anyone know the frequencies of the most active 2m repeaters in
the
Denver, Colorado area. I will be there for a week and plan to take
my HT with
me.

I tried the felt. It worked OK for holding the magnet on, but the
electrical coupling between the antenna and the car was terrible - I
got SWRs that ranged between 1.3 and 5, within seconds of each other.
Conclusion: the felt is too thick.

The IPS Monthly T-index is derived from the observed monthly median values
of foF2 for each hour at up to 40 ionospheric stations worldwide.
These records become available from IPS stations in Australia very soon after
each month, but the majority are received up to one year later.
This means that the exact observed value of the monthly T-index is not
available until some months later.
The predicted smoothed monthly T-indices are computed by using a statistical
analysis of the observed monthly T-indices for all solar cycles since 1938.
The IPS T-indices may not be updated each month but only when sufficient new
data becomes available.

thanks for the info and I figured that I could keep operating ok. but, that

and what I intended to ask is, when should I call/write/nag the fcc/arrl?
from reading the net, it seems like I should start nagging at about the

Good new and bad news. The good news is that it can be programmed
by an IBM compatible PC, via the serial port. The bad news is that
it requires a RIB (radio interface box), cables and software that
will cost you at least $500 and probably more! For what it will
cost you, you could buy a real nice, brand new Yaesu FT-530 dual
band HT and still have money left over for other gear. On the
other hand, if you already have the GP300, you are better off
having someone with the necessary equipment program it for you. I
do have the RIB and ther serial cable for it. If you come up with
the cable and the software, I would be happy to program your 300
for no charge.

On the sun... ;) Knew you'd like that one.
Try tuning into WWV or WWVH at 18 minutes past the hour. I'm listening in on
15.000 MHz right now and in one minute it will be 00:18 UTC, 5 July 1994.
Oh well, fading took most of the report out from here. Solar activity was
reported as very low to low I belive the A index was 6, the K - 2, and
sunspot number 85. Not sure because the fading was rather severe and it's been
some time since I listened for sloar reports on WWV.
If conditions are not right or you don't have an HF rig capable of receiving
WWV (who doesn't anymore?) you can call (303) 499-7111 for WWV or
(808) 335-4363 for WWVH. Notice that NEITHER call is a toll free call. That
means you gotta pay to listen.
I'm sure there are other ways to get the info you're looking for like an
ftp site or something like that. Maybe someone else will provide clues to
other than what I'm posting here.
Hope this helps.

I always take the temperature C, double it and then add 30. This works
fine if you want to be reasonably close and you'r mobile or something.
Of course, it the temperature is -40, you don't have to convert it. It's
the same on both scales.
Now if the USA would only get with the program and go metric.

I can't tell who replied to whom now but looks like some misinformation is
being passed along here. Eric, you MAY NOT operate until you receive a new
license from the FCC. I'll tell you why:
97.19(c) of the FCC Rules:
[When the licensee has submitted a timely application for renewal of an
unexpired license (between 60 and 90 days prior to the end of the license term
is recommended), the licensee may continue to operate until the disposition of
the application has been determined...]
Yes, you stated that you submitted your renewal at around the 90 day point.
But, your license has expired so the application was not timely. It's not
your fault that the FCC is backlogged so much that it is taking longer than the
recommended 60-90 days for the renewal to be processed. The 60 to 90 days is
only a recommendation and in times like we are in now submission should be
done earlier, like 120-150 days. The keywords in the first half of 97.19(c)
are [unexpired license]. Now let's look at the second half of 97.19(c)
[...If a license expires, {are you with me Eric?} application for renewal may
be made during a grace period of 2 years after the expiration date. During
this grace period, the expired license is not valid. A license renewed during
the grace period must be dated as of the date of the renewal.]
Okay, so you made the application before your license expired...but your license
has expired and you haven't received your renewal yet. I interpret the above
as saying that the renewal for an unexpired license means that, the renewal
must be processed by the FCC and/or you must receive the new license prior to
the old license expiration date in order for you to be permitted to keep
operating under the authority of the old ticket. One may keep operating on a
current license, providing it hasn't expired. Stands to reason once a license
is expired it is no longer current.
Since your license has expired and you haven't received the renewal you now
fall under the two-year grace period. You will retain your callsign, unless
you have applied to change it by initialing Block 4E. on the FCC Form 610 when
you submitted it.
There is a possibility that your new ticket is on the way to your mailbox. If
it has been over 90 days since you filed for renewal, you should call the FCC
at Gettysburg and get the scoop from the horse's mouth.
My point, Eric, is what if the FCC came to your house and caught you operating?
You present an expired license. What proof do you have that you submitted a
renewal application? The grace period doesn't mean that you can operate until
you obtain a new license after your old one has expired.
I'm sure you'll have your new and valid ticket within a couple of weeks now.
I wouldn't take any chances unless I spoke to someone at Gettysburg and was
told it is okay to keep operating considering the circumstances. Hey, there
could be a chance of that. But then I would carefully log the contents of the
call and make sure I got the individual's name correctly.
Good luck. If I am incorrect in my assessment of this situation I'm sure
someone will let me know. I do have over 20 years of experience reading and
interpreting government mumbo jumbo. I'm not always right but I'm not
afraid to jump in with both feet either. It's better to be safe than sorry
where the possibility of an NAL is concerned.
